Our Club Figure Skating Team is coached by Christina Polychronou, a highly accomplished skater with over fifteen years of coaching expertise. Christina Polychronou, a metro-Detroit local, was a very competitive freestyle skater in her youth. She spent time training in Lake Arrowhead, California with Olympic Coach Carlo Fauci. Eventually, Polychronou altered her focus to synchronized skating where she became a Multi-National Medalist and National Champion.
Christina Polychronou is now a resident coach at the Troy Sports Center. She has coached regional and midwestern champion freestyle skaters. She also serves as the Head Coach of the Troy United High School Figure Skating Team where she has led her team to victory in six District Championships (2017-2022, 2024) and three State Championships (2018, 2019, 2021). In 2023, the team placed third at the State Championships, and in 2024 they placed fourth.
Polychronou spent the 2019-2020 Season as the Head Coach of University of Michigan Figure Skating, prior to founding the Wayne State Figure Skating Club in 2021. Since starting WSU Figure Skating, Polychronou has made impeccable strides in growing the team and skaters themselves. She prioritizes a healthy and supportive environment for skaters to be understood, encouraged, and challenged. With varied levels, backgrounds, and skill sets on the team, Polychronou has repeatedly proven her ability to effectively improve a wide range of students, while forming bonds with all of them.
Christina Polychronou says, “Skate every practice as if it were your last, because tomorrow’s skate or competition is never promised.” By merging a hard-working environment with an exciting and fun one, Polychronou motivates WSU Figure Skaters to achieve this every week.
